SNSU EXTENSION CLASSES IN THE PROVINCE OF DINAGAT ISLANDS WAS APPROVED!

PIO Dinagat Islands – It is noteworthy that last year, representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Creseldo Calinawan, with the personnel’s from Surigao Norte State University (SNSU) led by SNSU Vice President (Administration), Dr. Mauricio S. Adlaon, personally visited Governor Nilo P. Demerey Jr., MPM to discuss the details regarding the opening of SNSU extension classes in the province. ‎

Last August 7, 2025, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Atty. Niel Edward M. Demerey, has announced that the SNSU Extension Classes has finally approved and classes will soon start after complying with the CHED and SNSU Main Campus demands.

The SNSU Extension Classes that is located in Cuarinta National High School, offers three (3) courses which are BS Marine Biology, BS Environmental Science, and BS Agro-Forestry (50 Students per course), free tuition. ‎ Due to the Governor’s initiative and efforts, and its aims to provide accessible education to the province. The opening of Surigao Norte State University (SNSU) Extension Classes in the Province of Dinagat Islands was officially fulfilled and approved.

The Dinagat Islands faced severe weather conditions as Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) made landfall near the municipality of Loreto on November 3, 2025. With maximum sustained winds of up to 150 km/h and gusts reaching 205 km/h, the typhoon brought intense rainfall, strong winds, and life-threatening coastal surges across the province. Prior to landfall, local authorities conducted preemptive evacuations in several coastal barangays, relocating more than 7,000 residents to designated evacuation centers. This early action, led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), helped prevent widespread casualties despite significant flooding and structural damage.
