Hon. Nilo Marco Miranda Demerey is a duly elected Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of Dinagat Islands, representing District 1 in the 7th Sangguniang Panlalawigan. As a young yet seasoned public servant, he brings to the legislative body a blend of administrative experience, institutional knowledge, and a strong commitment to responsive and people-centered governance.

Born on April 22, 1994, in Davao City, he comes from a family deeply rooted in public service. He is the second eldest son of Provincial Governor Hon. Nilo P. Demerey, Jr., MPM, and First Lady Marichu M. Demerey, RN. Growing up in an environment shaped by leadership and public accountability, he developed an early understanding of governance, public service, and responsibility to the community.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree major in English Language from the University of the Immaculate Conception, where he honed his communication, policy analysis, and leadership skills, competencies which are essential to effective legislation. To further enhance his capacity as a lawmaker, he is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Public Administration at St. Paul University Surigao, reinforcing his foundation in public policy, administration, and good governance.

His involvement in government began in 2019 at the Provincial Government of Dinagat Islands, where he served as Private Secretary of his father being the member of Sangguniang Panlalawigan at that time. This role provided him with direct exposure to legislative proceedings, committee work, and policy development. During his father’s tenure as Vice Governor, he was appointed Executive Assistant IV, assuming expanded responsibilities, including the management of the Remedy Aksyon Center, a frontline mechanism for addressing constituents’ concerns and extending social services door-to-door to every Dinagatnon.

During the first term of Governor Nilo P. Demerey, Jr., he was designated as Security Officer IV under the Civil Security Division and concurrently served as Chief of Staff. These assignments strengthened his competencies in leadership coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and operational management, those skills that now greatly influence his legislative work and decision-making.

In the 2025 National and Local Elections, Hon. Demerey sought elective office and was elected as Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for District 1. This electoral victory reflected the trust and confidence of Dinagatnons that were built through years of his consistent service, accessibility, and engagement with grassroots communities.

He serves as Chairman of the Committees on Rules, Law and Ordinances and on Education, and frequently presides as Majority Floor Leader of the 7th Sangguniang Panlalawigan. He is recognized for his active legislative engagement, careful review of proposed measures, and strong support for policies that promote good governance, social development, and sustainable provincial growth, guided by legal integrity and the genuine needs of the people.

Beyond his provincial mandate, Hon. Demerey holds the position of being the Regional Chairman of the Provincial Board Members League of the Caraga Region. In this capacity, he provides leadership in promoting unity, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices among provincial legislators across the region, contributing to the alignment of legislative priorities and the strengthening of local governance.

As a legislator, he is known for his active and substantive participation in sessions, his careful and detail-oriented review of legislative measures, and his consistent support for ordinances and resolutions that promote institutional efficiency, social development, and long-term provincial growth. He firmly believes that effective legislation must be grounded in legal integrity and responsiveness to the genuine needs of the people, allowing public service to be measured by meaningful impact rather than personal recognition.

His advocacy for youth development and education is reflected in his strong support for sports programs which are both physical sports and e-sports that reflects as platforms for discipline, teamwork, and positive youth engagement. He has also extended legislative and personal support to school-based competitions by providing transportation assistance to students and teachers, as well as supporting students who represent the province in national and international competitions. These efforts underscore his belief that investing in education and youth is fundamental to the sustainable development of the Province of Dinagat Islands.
