The dam was constructed by the Philippine Nickel Corporation in the early 80s to serve as a water storage facility, providing water to the Nonoc Nickel Mine, located 20 kilometers away. It is known for its flowing, curtain-like water spillway, which connects to the famous Hinabyan Beach. The dam is surrounded by a diverse range of flora and fauna, including Magkono, the second hardest wood in the world.
Located in Barangay Del Pilar, Cagdianao, the dam is accessible by boat, with a 40 to 50-minute ride from the municipal pier of Cagdianao.
